Iain has described Sketch as “mutant ceilidh techno” but fRoots magazine have also offered a simpler description of an “electro / techno / trad collective”!
They released their first album ‘Shed Life’ in May 2012 Sketch which represented about a year’s work from Iain Copeland as producer and marked his first debut CD as band leader. This was followed by a tour of Canada, a sensational appearance at Heb Celt festival and a couple of stonking gigs at Hogmanay.
2015 has been a brilliant if busy year! The ‘difficult second album’, as Iain described it, ‘Highland Time’ was launched in June and has received some great reviews from various publications including fRoots magazine and The Herald. Iain has also been working as the Musical Director for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s interpretation of RL Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’. The production knits together Sketch tunes from both albums with ambient instrumentals that Iain has adapted for the project.
With a fantastic gig at Feis Na Mara under their belt, Sketch are looking forward to seeing 2016 in with their New Year’s Day gig at The Ceilidh Place and Celtic Connections 2016 on Thursday 21st January at the Oran Mor.

Here’s a video of the band at Cambridge Folk Festival 2013.
An amazing video put together by editor Michael Konig and made available on Vimeo. The original shots are stills from a series of NASA satellites very skillfully put together into a motion sequence. Which you can check out here:-
Iain thought that the track Earthship from the Sketch cd might be a good fit for the music so he has put the images and the music together here.
